Rest & Recovery

This has been a very interesting season. Personally I pushed myself and my family to the limits this year. I normally use this space to pass along a bit of knowledge and attempt to motivate all of you to become more a part of ATC. I also use this space to pass along important happenings that you may want to take advantage of. This month it will be a bit different.

I recently became an Ironman. Many of you followed my progress and cheered me on in your own way. There was one person though that I must profess a profound thanks to. Kerrie, my wife, I am eternally indebted to you. Many of you know that I trained a lot this past year. Training for me started January 9th and finally ended August 27th. This was a long year to say the least.

Kerrie was with me every step, mile, tear, breakdown, high point, and finish along the way. To become an Ironman it takes absolute focus. I missed many ballgames, meetings, family events and the like in order to be successful in my race. Kerrie was absolutely understanding and pivotal in allowing me to achieve this dream. Not only was I racing for me, I was racing for her. She was my rock, cliché I know, but there was one moment in my long day that I needed her more than ever.

Going into mile 2 on the run, coming off the bridge temps were exceed 95 degrees. I was miserable, I was off my race plan, and felt as though there was no more left. I rounded the corner and she was there. She ran with me a bit and helped me refocus on what I wanted to accomplish. I cannot tell you what she said because I cannot remember. I only know she was there. She started the day at 4am with me and never once left my side.

Kerrie was the first one I searched for as I crossed the finish line. A hug, a kiss, many tears, and then the medical tent left our embrace a bit short. I am and will now always be an IRONMAN, but, my wife will always be my inspiration. Without her, I am lost; she is my strength and source of desire. Thank you Kerrie for all that you have given me and put up with; especially, when you had to rescue me a time or two on the roads.

See you at Stinkfoot
